Peter Thiemann has a friend who owns a ranch near Malheur. And each winter this friend gets an unusual yard bird interested in the songbirds at his feeders:Goshawk 5

Peter visited earlier this month and got these shots of the female Goshawk hanging around the feeders.

This is one of the Townsend’s Solitaires that come to those feeders and tries to elude the Goshawk. Another member of the thrush family is the Varied Thrush. These are Peter’s pics of one in the garden at John and Stephanie Bullock’s house in Ashland. Nice bird.

  1. What great pics…especially the varied thrush and background (a piece of art).

  2. Wow! Super, super clean photos. Tack sharp and hats off to Peter and to you for putting him on the web. I’d love to tag along and learn his secrets.
