This week I am birding with Sandy Komito, the only many to have seen 748 birds in the ABA area in a single calendar year. This is a record that may be nearly unbreakable now that birding Attu Island in Alaska is no longer possible. Mr. Komito is nw ona personal quest to get his new camera to get photos of as many species as possible in that same ABA area. If you;ve already seen every bird possible, what;s next? To PHOTOGRAPH every bird possible. He added four good photos to thst life list here yesterday: Pac-slope Flycatcher, Calliope Hummingbird, Western Wood-Pewee and Lewis’s Woodpecker. For ninety minutes we sat near a chimney being used by Vaux’s Swift. Sandy managed one shot with a flying swift. The jusy is out on whether that photo is good enough for the life list.
Earlier inthe week Mr. K got MacGillvray’s and Hermit Warbler on his own.
More info later and more Malheur photos when I get the time.
For the record, we did slow down to photograph a black bear on upper Tolman Creek Road. Mr.Komito says h’es ohotographed very large mammal in North America, including whales.
