Peter Kreisman sent me these pictures he took of Eared Grebes at Emigrant Lake today.  They are in breeding plumage as they arrive in Oregon from their wintering grounds.  Some will stay to nest in Klamath Basin and Malheur.  They will not nest here in Jackson County oir anywhere else west of the Cascades.

  1. Neat picture of the diving grebe!!

  2. Heard the shrill cries of a raft of pie-billed greeds sreaching for Easter eggs last Sunday. They also show up aroung Halloween! Nice photos of Eared Grebes.

  3. Hmmm. I think I’ve been seeing these in Puget Sound. You’re saying they can’t be found west of the Cascades, though. Do these have a close cousin that looks similar enough to confuse someone who doesn’t know birds all that well?
