NEW AN NEWBRY

Light rain or sporadic drizzle, whatever you call it, the humidity this morning was just over 100%.  The dog and I went over to Newbry Park and the Bear Creek Greenway.  I got to see a Dipper at the footbridge over Bear Creek.  It is the first time I’ve seen Dipper that far downstream on Bear Creek.  Other birders have reported Dippers there, but not often.  I occasionally notice the Dipper whitewash on rocks in the creek.  This time the bird was there in the flesh.

The Dipper was near the footbridge which is south of Isabel Sickels Pond and north of the Talent city limits on the eastern edge of town.  Quickest approach is from the talent city limits sign on Hwy 99, then down to the Greenway trail and downstream to the bridge.  Sickels Pond is further downstream.

The White-throated Sparrow, second one I’ve seen in this area in recent years, was about 100 yards before you reach the bridge coming from the east.  That is also where the Wrentit pair was feeding in the poison hemlock stalks, now dead and leafless.  If I’d had my camera I would have some good Wrentit pictures.  The sedentary Wrentit pair, of course, will spend their entire life in that stretch of the Bear Creek floodplain.
