FIRST BIRDS OF NOVEMBER

I always look forward to the first birds of a new month.  Putting those first “x” marks into the boxes on a brand new checklist.  An afternoon dog walk at Emigrant Lake gave me some nice little “X”s for November.

I didn’t see a single Lewis’s Woodpecker there all last month.  Today: bingo.  The bird was in the oaks next to the waterslide.

Hundreds of American Robins fluttering through the oaks and down at Riosebud Lane feeding beneath the bushes.

At the south end of the reservoir, a “tired” American Pipit.  Nearby by the shorebird collective: Many Killdeer, a Spotted Sandpiper and a group of Western Sandpipers.
