Female Junco in Golden Gate Park.

The male Hooded Oriole at his nest tree, a fan palm at 48th and Geary, SF.  A pair has nested in this vicinity for over a decade.

Young Pied-billed Grebe, feeding itself but still sporting that zebra-striped face.

And an adult grebe fluttering its wings.

An Olive-sided Flycatcher was calling incessantly from this perch atop a Monterey cypress in the Presidio.

Nearby his cousin, Black Phoebe, hunted over the lawn.

Allen’s Hummingbird male. Note his gorget stops at the eyeline.  This bird was named for the man who first noticed this “new species” in Marin over 130 years ago.
