A pair of Band-tailed Pigeons came down to our platform feeders this afternoon.  No April Fools, they.  This is their first appearance in our garden this spring.  There’ll be more.  They often manage to jam up to ten of their rotundities onto one platform simultaneously, with much shoving and belly-bumping as they maneuver for position.

Temps topped 70 degrees today for the first this year here.  And spring drumming was in the air.  Not just our neighbors’ bongos but a Flicker on a nearby chimney, the Downy on a strip of loose bark across the street.

Downy works the willow.

The owl glare–nuthin’s funny even on April First.
