This Rusty Blackbird was photographed by Julie Edmunds.   It was forwarded to me by Alan Contreras.  This species is found mostly in the southeastern U.S.  in the winter and breeds in Alaska and northern Canada.  Nearly all migrate southward east of the Rockies. A few Rusties do winter along the Washington and British Columbia coast.  It is rare in Oregon in any season.  In 1997 Contreras’s NORTHWEST BIRDS IN WINTER could report three previous winter sightings in this state.

This bird’s at Tiller, Douglas County.  Y0u can check the OBOL website for info on this and other state rarities.
