THEY’RE HERE, ALIENS IN ASHLAND

Here’s photographic proof, aliens without papers, without visas, settling into Ashland’s mellowness:

The rapid spread of the ECD from Florida across the North American continent has taken less than 30 years. The Eurasian Collared-Dove was originally resident on the Indian sub-continent.  It spread across southern Asia and most of Europe with no direct human help.  It is now resident even on northern islands off Scotland.  Fecundity and a diverse plant diet have helped this species’ global success.  You might think of them as the McDonals’s of the pigeon family.

Responses

  1. They eat’m in AZ first, then ask for papers!

  2. That does look a lot like the bird we saw in southern Africa last year. Collared at least.
