Things Are Ducky For Most American Waterfowl

The annual breeding survey for North American waterfowl is largely positive.  Among the more common ducks only Pintail and scaup species are below their long-term average in abundance. You can view the entire 2010 report covering U.S. and Canada here. The report was first issued in 1995 so there’s over a half century of records.

Other ducks with negative trend lines this year: mergansers, scoters and goldeneyes.  Most dabblers are looking positive, even the American Black Duck is on the increase.  You could have guessed that Mallards are the most common duck in America.
