Six hours on the road this afternoon and evening. Two Lewis’s Woodpeckers at Collier Rest Stop on I-5 along the Klamath River. Numerous Western Kingbirds along I-5 in grassy spots. The summer Cliff Swallow colonies are once again in their nesting sites under bridges and overpasses. Near Nicasio Reservoir in Marin County I saw my first Ash-throated Flycatcher of the spring. Near where I’m staying in Pt. Reyes Station there are four non-breeding White Pelicans fishing in the shallow salt pond. Numerous dabbling ducks that have not yet migrated out: Gadwall, Pintail, GW Teal, Wigeon and Shoveler.
This weekend: the first ever Point Reyes Birding Festival.
