Here’s Len Blumin’s recent email text and his fine bobcat picture to go with it:
“Our group visited Pinnacles National Monument on Monday to see the Condors, we were elated to watch at least 5 of soaring as a group. While walking around the visitor center Fred Hansen called to us about a flock of Wild Turkeys he had spotted, and his call more urgent as he said “Bobcat!”. It soon became clear that the turkeys, which seemed to be about 20 subadults with at least 2 full adults, were doggedly pursuing the Bobcat as it hunted in the field. Quickly the Bobcat killed a California Ground Squirrel, but the turkeys continued their harassment. Poor Bobcat finally found a peaceful spot to eat its prey by climbing 20 feet up into a tree. The turkeys kept him there for 10-15 minutes before tiring of th “tree-the-cat” game. Photo difficult because of the dense shade and backlight, but worth sharing. Bobcat, Lynx rufus, is widely distributed in the U.S. Note the small ear tufts”
What’s not to love about this post. Kick Ass.
