Birds of August

dioo holds stk 8-14This American Dipper was fishing in Ashland Creek, not far from the Lithia Park band shell.  He kept shaking this chunk of limb, apparently suspecting there was a larva hiding inside.dipp drops stik 8-14

He even threw the stick down onto the rock a couple times.

Born nearby two juvenile towhees feed in our garden every day.  Note how darkly colored this young towhee is, not pure white on the belly yet, no orange vest.  Does have the same white tail feather tips as the adult.  Meanwhile the number of Lesser Godfinches on our nyger sock seems to increase daily.LEGOs hanging around  They’re just hanging around.   BHG males x 2 in AugustTwo male Black-headed Grosbeaks, mature on the left, one-year-old on the right.  And here’s most recent image of our neighborhood Screecher creature, who doesn’t screech but softly hoots his little syncopated song.OWL STARE 8-12-09
