It’s the best time of the year to be in San Francisco. We had less than a day so I couldnt go chasing migrants. But the locally abundant Lamp=-post Gulls were about:
And inside the Beach Chalet were gulls of another sort entirely:
Just around the corner from the Chalet, one of the city’s two century-old wooden windmills.
And the resident Raven pair roost and probably nest there.
There was something worth croaking about:
On the beach were the usual fall circles of Heermann’s Gulls, their pluymage adarker even than the beach sand.
On our drive south on I-5 this time we saw both magpies, the Black[-billed need Weed, the Yellow-billed in a small group near Maxwell where we also spotted a low cloud lof White-face Ibis and some White-fronted Geese milling about a recently mowed field. Only a few swallows still in the Valley, probably Tree as some winter there. No Kingbirds.
